How does a bail bond work?
In most cases, a friend or family member of the defendant cosigns for the bail bond allowing the defendant to be released from jail shortly after the bond is posted. A bail bond is used by many court systems to insure the appearance of a defendant to their prospective court date. As long as the defendant has an active bond on file with the court, they are able to remain out of jail for the entire duration of the case.
How much does a bail bond cost?
The cost of a bail bond depends on the state the bond is being purchased in and the type of bail bond. In southern California there are three rates available for bail bonds. Most criminal bail bonds are written for a cost of 10% of the original bail amount. Steven Mehr & Scott Mehr bail bonds have the lowest rates available in California.
